What is a CCJ?
A County Court Judgement (CCJ) is a type of court order in England, Wales and Northern Ireland that might be registered against you if you fail to repay money you owe. They are often posted to you on a form and are shown as either satisfied or unsatisfied on the register.

What is a satisfied CCJ?
Having a satisfied CCJ means you’ve paid back the money in full, but the fact you’ve had a CCJ stays on the register for 6 years. Lenders look at information from the CCJ register when deciding whether to offer credit or not, meaning getting a mortgage even with a satisfied CCJ can be difficult.
However, this doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Having a CCJ with a certificate of satisfaction holds you in higher stead than having an unsatisfied CCJ - where chances of being granted credit are little to none.
High street lenders also consider the details of the CCJ i.e. the date of issue and amount it was worth, meaning if it is a low payment from years ago, you are likely to be granted a settled CCJ mortgage.
Due to the importance of a mortgage and the high responsibility securing one entails, we greatly recommend using a mortgage broker, particularly if you have the added complication of a satisfied CCJ.
Why use a mortgage broker?
Having a mortgage expert on your side really does make a difference. First and foremost, they will know the ins and outs of all the legal requirements and complications, which is imperative in the sticky situation of a CCJ. Moreover, they will have extensive knowledge of the mortgage market, being able to compare deals and tailor their findings to your personal needs.
